YARTS Releases 2019 Summer Service Schedule
Travel to and from Yosemite utilizing public transit!

The Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System (YARTS) begins its summer schedule this week. Routes during the summer season include service from Mammoth Lakes, Sonora, and Fresno to Yosemite National Park in addition to the year-round service from Merced and Mariposa along Highway 140.

Central Section Event - Planning & Implementing the "Q"...

Experience Fresno's First Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Line!

May 17, 2019, 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. (with optional social events following)

Join the Central Section of CA APA for an exciting program and in-person tour featuring the City of Fresno's first BRT line along the Blackstone/Ventura/Kings Canyon corridor! Presentations will focus on the challenges and opportunities associated with planning and implementing the BRT from the ground-up. The tour will provide an opportunity for planners to become familiar with biggest transit investment in Fresno’s history, including the Ticket Vending Machines, riding the BRT, and learning about the multiple planning processes involved to bring local and regional land use and transportation goals to fruition.  See the schedule below:

  • BRT Program from 3 – 4:30 p.m. at the Fresno Council of Governments (FCOG) Sequoia Room

  • Tour of the BRT from 4:30 – 6 p.m. from Downtown to Manchester Mall and Back

    • Optional: 7:05 p.m. – Fresno Grizzlies Baseball Game at Chuckchansi Park against Sacramento River Cats (join the City of Fresno DARM Planners at their “Enjoy a Night at the Grizzlies Event”)

    • Optional: 6 – 7 p.m. – Informal Networking at Los Panchos Mexican Restaurant on Fulton Street

2018 Central Section Sierra Retreat at Lake Sequoia

August 24-26, 2018  at Lake Sequoia

The Central Section will host the 26th Annual Sierra Retreat August 24-26 at Lake Sequoia in eastern Fresno County.  As with years past, the event continually provides a great family-friendly atmosphere for planners and their friends and loved ones from throughout the region and beyond.  

This year’s Professional Development Program will focus on the history of LAFCo’s and the role they play in the planning world, and will be lead by Fresno LAFO Executive Officer, David Fey.  The program will qualify for up to 2.5 AICP CM credits, and is open to all who attend the Retreat.

Cal Planning Foundation Announces Two 2018 Central Section Scholarship Awardees

The California Planning Foundation (CPF) annually offers scholarships to outstanding planning students in California.  CPF’s major and named scholarships are awarded to students in accredited and non-accredited schools based on an application and selection process established by the CPF Board. The scholarships are designed for continuing students entering their final year of an undergraduate or master’s degree program.

 

Criteria for the scholarships include academic performance, financial need, increasing the diversity in the planning profession, and a commitment to serve the planning profession in California. A BIG congratulation is extended to the Central Valley Section’s two CPF Scholarship awardees:

 

Russell Fey Central Valley Section Scholarship ($1,000): Devin Ciriaco, Cal Poly SLO

Fresno State Offers New City and Regional Planning Degree

Fall Semester - 2017

Fresno State students can now earn a degree in city and regional planning. The Bachelor of Science degree program, effective in the fall 2017 semester, is the only such planning program in the Central Valley.

The new program, which replaces an option within the geography major that has been offered since 2014, will require completion of 120 units (including 42 units in major requirements).
